New York City’s dining scene is set to sparkle this September as the inaugural Asti Week transforms how Americans experience Italy’s beloved effervescent wines from Piedmont. Running from September 15-19, this groundbreaking culinary event challenges conventional thinking about when and how to enjoy Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti.
While many Americans associate these Piedmontese sparklers exclusively with sweet endings, Asti Week aims to showcase their remarkable food-pairing potential throughout the entire meal. Asti Spumante delivers vibrant effervescence complemented by sophisticated aromatics—think crisp pear, delicate acacia blossoms, and fresh white florals—making it an exceptional aperitif or companion to savory cuisine.
Meanwhile, Moscato d’Asti presents a gentler approach to sparkling wine. With lower alcohol content and subtle fizz, this elegant sipper reveals complex notes of ripe peach, fresh sage, and fragrant orange blossoms. Its natural affinity for spicy preparations, aged cheeses, and umami-forward dishes surprises even seasoned wine enthusiasts.
Fifteen NYC Restaurants Join the Moviment
The city’s most acclaimed dining establishments are embracing this Italian wine revolution. Each participating venue will feature either a glass of Spumante or a creative cocktail incorporating these bubbles, alongside thoughtfully crafted dishes that highlight Moscato d’Asti’s food-friendly nature.
“With Asti Week, we want to show New Yorkers—and the world—that Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti are not only joyful and approachable thanks to their low alcohol content, but also incredibly food-friendly wines,” said Giacomo Pondini, Director of the Consorzio Asti DOCG. “This initiative is an invitation to rediscover our sparkling wines in new, and maybe unexpected, contexts.”
